Michael Strahan looking at retiring…

July 30, 2007 by BLACKpepper

Michael Strahan - NY Giants

I will say, I am a fan of Michael Strahan, although I like nothing about the New York Giants.

Strahan didn’t report for Training Camp on Friday and his agent notified the Giants that his client is mulling over retirement.

Even if he does retire, fans of his including myself will still be able to enjoy him as a commentator as he destined for a career on the set in front of a camera. And I think he will do a damn good job, he’s witty and has a flair for the camera. He may have to invest in some Visalign, but he can afford it.

Then again, his wife jean did clean his clock in a divorce settlement whcih she was awarded $15M and $18K a month in child support. Damn!

That right there would make any man want to quit his day job.

Did Michael Vick write that prepared statement…

July 30, 2007 by BLACKpepper

Michael Vick - Indicted

If he did, then he is dumber than I thought.

Michael Vick’s lawyer, Billy Martin, read a statement that he says was prepared by Vick – but I don’t believe him. Imagine that, an unbelievable lawyer.

The statement said that Vick would love nothing more to be in “spring training” with the Falcons.

Spring Training!

WTF, does Vick play for the Atlanta Braves now.

I believe he meant to write Training Camp!

Memo to Billy Martin, if your going to say Vick wrote something, atleast have the boy proof read it before you announce it to the entire nation. If you expect to have Vick go free, then you can’t make simple mistakes like such.

That was ugly.

Vick, if this is a sign of things to come for you – you may want to seek some additional counsel.

Most recognizable brand/logo in sports…

July 27, 2007 by BLACKpepper

I was talking to a good buddy of mine today about marketing a brand and some how we got on the topic of the Jumpman, Michael Jordan’s brand spawned off Nike.

We were talking about how recognizable that logo/brand was globally.

So it got me to thinking about some of the most recognizable logo/brands in sports as we know it today. So I called up my best friend while he was at work – to get his take on which brand/logo is the most recognizable the world over. We’re talking globally recognized, not nationally.

So after giving him my top 10, I had him fill in the blanks as I was a few short of ten. We couldn’ for the life us figure out which of the ten was #1, but we did have a good idea as to which ones were not #1.

So I have compiled a list and dared to place them in order from 1-10 of what I perceive the most globally recognized top 10 logos/brands in the world.

Here we go:

#1 New York Yankees - Legendary the world over and worn by many who are not even fans of the team.

New York Yankees Logo

New York Yankees Logo

#2 Nike Swoosh – Classic design that has withstood the test of time.

Nike Swoosh

#3 Gatorade - You can’t go to any sporting event and not see Gatorade on the field of play.

Gatorade logo

#4 Mobil1 – Very popular in motorsports, no matter what racing series it is.

Mobil1 Logo

#5 Jumpman – Air Jordan, #23 – 22 years in the making and very popular amongst the young generation.

Jumpman Logo

#6 Good Year – Another motorsports entry which can be found in all types of motorsports. And the Goodyear Blimp in itself is a sporting icon.

Goodyear logo

Goodyear Blimp

#7 adidas – Simply put, Americans don’t like soccer – but soccer is a global sport and is the most played sport amongst youths today. Look at what they are wearing and its easy to see why adidas made the list.

adidas logo

#8 Michelin – Another motorsports entry known the world over.

Michelin Logo

Michelin Man logo

#9 Los Angeles Raiders – Who doesn’t know the silver and black.
Oakland Raiders

#10 NBA Logo – Although the sport is lacking in some areas, NBA Jerseys sales are still king and the NBA Logo of Jerry West can be found on all of them sold the world over.

NBA Logo

Now I know this can be challenged as there are a lot of other brands that can be easily added without argument – but in my opinion, this is close enough to being the real deal.

Mike Nifong confesses about no credible evidence in LAX case…

July 26, 2007 by BLACKpepper

Oh really!?

When this news first broke – I turned to my best friend and said, that didn’t happen like they are saying it did. Not because I am a psychic or I was physically there – but it was all wrong from the beginning.

First and foremost, rape is a brutal and hideous crime and no woman should be subjected to such an abuse that degrades them of their dignity.

But lets look at the smart facts of this case. A young woman, regardless of color goes to house that is having a party by a group of young drunken teenage boys – not because she was invited as a guest of the party. But as a stripper. That right their should have made everyone slam on the brakes and ask some really important questions.

But nope, Nifong was up for re-relection and the black community was up in arms and he had to do something – even if he knew it was wrong. So he proceeded without caution or concern. I wonder if he knew it would be him who was the guilty party.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying a stripper deserves to be interrogated – I am not saying that all. What I am saying is this – she was not above approach. Someone should have sat her down and asked her some questions.

When the details of her actions just hours before that incident started to emerge, someone should have definitely been asking questions.

Nifong allowed the black community with their protests get to him and since the truth came out – not a single leader of that black community has stepped up to the plate to do the right thing by these players, that’s apologize, Al Sharpton included.

Lots of people were jockeying to get their face on the television cameras to voice their outrage of this alleged crime and not a single one of those who went on camera for their 15 minutes of fame returned once the dust had settled.

Way to go community leaders(allegedly) – seems you all are real stand up types. Gald you fuckers don’t represent me!

You want to know the really sad part of all this – those three kids would not have gotten justice if this case didn’t go this way. If those kids had not been charged for the lack of evidence, the black community would have been out marching for sure. So sadly enough, they had to endure some hard times to get their justice.

If this story couldn’t get any sadder, the female who alledged the rape has not been charged to date. I would think a civil lawsuit against her would have been on the table – but chances are she doesn’t have anything anyways. I saw her father on television being interviewed when all this happened – in my view, he wasn’t sure if a crime occured from his demeanor – some parents know their kids. Needless to say, his daughter embarrassed him and the rest of the family for her poor choices.

When this mess finally came to an end – the same friend I told this was wrong said something that was perhaps true – “those kids got a taste of what it feels like to be black”. Perhaps he is right.

Hot summer in sports…

July 26, 2007 by BLACKpepper

When the weather is warm, people usually act a fool – professional sports only represents a small segment of society. If the news of professional sports characters getting in trouble is any indication of what our society is doing during this hot summer – people are really acting a fool.

Screw the farmers report, Pacman’s theatrics of bumping into the law was a telling sign it was going to be hot.

Starting with the NFL, the Commish is setting a standard with these guys that is telling them this is a business and not some college campus for them to do what ever they choose. Pacman, Odell Thurman, Tank Johnson and Chris Henry are some notables who are serving suspensions to start this season off. I made a note to myself not to even talk about Vick, but he had his first of many days to come in court today – let’s see how that pans our for him. The boy has four lawyers. It surely is going to cost him to go free…maybe.

The NBA’s gambling scandal with Tim Donaghy is enough alone. Now add that to Kobe whining, failed trades for Garnett and Durant and Oden taken #1 and #1 – the NBA too has had its spotlight. What’s really funny with all this from the NBA, Stephen Jackson and Ron Artests suspensions quickly fell to the bottom of the blotter with all the bad press.

Major League Baseball is dealing with steroids and I am not sure if anyone knows what the hell is going on with that. Needless to say, with Bonds chasing that record, MLB is going to be in the news for steroids until the final out of the World Series.

And if your unaware about a certain bicycle race going on over in France, they too had a drug scandal. The leading rider was removed by his team for an illegal blood transfusion.

I understand that there is another league called the NHL – they are the only league to perhaps stay out of the news, but not by choice. No one is interested in that league.

the job of a commissioner seems to have gotten hot with the weather – I bet the heads of those leagues are hoping for a cold cold winter.

And I can’t forget Amanda Beard showed her beard in Playboy.

Lexus IS350…

July 26, 2007 by BLACKpepper

Lexus IS350

As I go to the bank every day, I see a IS350 parked outside every day – its a stunning piece no doubt.

So this weekend I took some time to go look at one and fell completely in love with it – not so far in love that I drove one home, but I am thinking of doing so.

The appearance is small and compact, but not to the point to where your feeling like its a coupe – just the right size for me as I slipped in and out of it with ease. The interior is nothing short of what you would expect from a Lex – high quality and craftmanship.

Driving one, I could feel the 306Hp beating under the hood as it responded well to being gassed and it also had nice steering response.

This is one fine ride.
